We made a lot of mistakes—like trying to look successful before we actually were.
Things had been building up for a while, but the moment that really shook us was at the grocery store checkout when the cashier looked up at us and said, ‘Sorry, your card’s been declined.’ We instantly knew we were maxed out. That walk out of the store—with no groceries and everything sinking in—was embarrassing, humbling and really scary.
As awful as that moment was, it was exactly the kick in the pants we needed. It started us on a journey of financial recovery that led us to paying off $96,247 of debt! But even more than that, we learned to master money and develop financial habits that support us today and prepare us for tomorrow.
